Steps

Abraham up to Mount Moriah, with Isaac burdened by the wood (read Genesis 22). I've always seen Abraham with a martyr attitude. A staunch "The LORD demands all" attitude, and setting his will inexorably. Each step a thud of self-sacrificial determination. His eyes cast to the ground resolutely.

But the mountain isn't called "Abraham Passes the Test." The place is called, "The LORD Will Provide" (Genesis 22:14).

I will not undermine the extremity of the test. But what if in the very extremity of the test these is a confidence, an awed mystery that with each step Abraham was expectantly looking, "LORD, you will provide? How? Do I see it yet?" His eyes up to heaven.

Abraham had already seen the LORD give all, give all. Even before the ram, he knew, knew, that the LORD was good.

In the extremity of our tests, we have seen Father God give all, the Lord Jesus give all, the Holy Spirit give all. Give himself. Give his life on the cross for us, and his living life today to us. Even before our answers, we know, know, that the LORD is good. Each step can change.
