Everlasting Rock
Physically.
Friends’ suffering continues.
Frustrated plans.
Weather.
One thing after another.
“So trust in the Eternal One forever, for He is like a great
Rock—strong, stable, trustworthy, and lasting.” (Isaiah 26:4, The Voice)
“Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is
everlasting strength:” (Isaiah 26:4, KJV)
“Trust in the Lord forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.”
(Isaiah 26:4, ESV)
Everlasting Rock.
Strong. Lord, in our weakness you are physical strength. In
spiritual weakness, you renew the inner man. You exchange your strength, the
strength of the One who caused the mountains to surface, for our limited and
weak little strength (Isa. 40:31). All of his strength! Lord, I look to you.
Stable. Solid. Lord, when the mountains give way, your love
and your covenant with us is not shaken (Isa. 54:10). When life trembles, when
body gives out, when emotions are swayed, you are there. Solid. Stable. More
real than the couch I sit on. Stable. Lord, I look to you.
Trustworthy. Always there. Like a rock, you are worthy of leaning
our whole weight, our whole life, our whole being, our whole future, our whole
heart, all of our emotions, our whole eternity on. Worthy, worthy. Lord, I look
to you!
Lasting. Unchanging. Never throwing me a curveball. Nothing
unexpected for you. The next five minutes which look awfully long, the next
month, the next year, Lord, are yours. You are there. You will be the same in
your strength and solid and trustworthiness. The waves of today cannot sink
you. And us in you, we cannot be sunk either. Lord, I look to you!
Faithful. Trustworthiness made personal. You give yourself
to us. You seal your promises to us by the blood of your own Son. You have
sealed us to your heart in a covenant. You are righteous toward us in all your
ways, always doing right by us. Lord, I look to you!
Everlasting.
Rock.
Instead of using your awesome eternality, power, strength to
crush us, you are for us.
Instead, my God, my God! you crushed your son.
“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our
iniquities… Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to
grief…” (Isaiah 53:4, 10, ESV).
Lord, we trust. Just as you are forever, we trust forever.
Forever! Lord, we can spend eternity trusting you! And so these light and
momentary struggles, they take their place. They, placed before the Everlasting
Rock. So Lord, in you, in your love, sealed with the Spirit and the blood, the
heaviness of today does not crush me. Your strength. Your everlastingness. Your
power. Your hope. Your faithfulness. You.
