Out of Our Minds

Oh that people would say we're out of our mind--which Paul says in 2 Cor. 5:13-14, "If we are out of our mind, it is for God's sake, if we are in our right mind, it is for you." In other words, their love was so radical people thought they were out of their mind! But he was saying, "This is actually what right minded living is like. It is radical--but it is so other-centered. We are for you. Why are you against us that we are so for you?" And oh, oh, oh! I want to be that other-centered, that in love with God.

In our upside down world, do we live right side up? Do we know what that looks like?
Doing nothing but what we see the Father doing, and waiting on him? (John 5:19)
Living with such a generosity we will truly give any extra away when we see need, whether money or coats? (1 John 3:16-17)
Seeing cheek-slapping, humility, offenses that truly hurt as opportunities to show grace? (Matt. 5:39)
Being willing to trust God to take care of our enemies and vindicate our life? (Isa. 50:1-9 of the Servant, the coming Jesus; Luke 23:46)
The courage to rebuke leaders with truth? (Matt. 12; 23)
The humility to pray for leaders, even when they are contrary to the kingdom? (Matt. 5:44; 1 Tim. 2)

It can, it can feel like we’re out of our mind, when logic and reasonableness and “wisdom” points the other way. But oh my Lord, may I be out of my mind, and with your mind. May we live with a love that is out of this world.
