Life and Death

Jesus said to [Martha], “I am the resurrection and the life. . . . After she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. “The Teacher is here,” she said, “and is asking for you.” When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him. . . . When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there.
John 11

Mary got up. The mourning Jews assumed she went to the place of death, to the tomb.
She went to Jesus, Life himself.

Life invited her; called her. The path: run to death or run to Life. Listen to his voice. He is here. He is asking for you.

Jesus invites us, the opposite of what we are tempted to run to, to wallow in: Life in a culture of death; Light in our darkness; Hope in our despair; Strength in our weakness; Comfort in our pain; Peace in our fear; Rock in the instability; Glory in our frivolity; Holiness in our grime.

  1. Precious Jillian, thank you for this timely reminder......searching one's own heart is sometimes difficult.. but God is faithful to speak into our very being, in His time, not ours, isn't He? We think of you often. Phil has your name on our prayer sheet, so we not only think of you, but pray for you. You are loved in Waco.

  2. So good to go to the source of Life daily in our earthly struggles. Oscar Wilde once said, "To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." Jesus wants to breathe Life into us as a rare example to all.
