High, Holy, Hope: Jeremiah 17:12-13a
“A glorious
throne set on high from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary. O LORD,
the hope of Israel …”
Jer. 17:12-13a
"To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen" (1 Timothy 1:16).
Glorious Throne – He has all the power, he is the kingover all--all trouble, all joy, all moments, from world history to the decisions of international governments to the daily little moments and details.
On high – Holy, transcendent, omniscient; in his aboveness-and-beyondness, he is not controlled by the wordly forces and locked in, but reigns supreme, and thus is able to redeem.
From the beginning – Unchanging, eternal, forevermore,
always in charge, always faithful! Constant!
Sanctuary – This eternal place, this glorious place of
earth-shaking, shaping power is where we run to find refuge and solace, and in
Christ we have bold access (Eph. 3:12; Heb. 4:16). On the throne of God above, I find my Father!
LORD – The covenant name of the Lord, the God-who-is-for-us.
The hope – He himself is our hope, our hope in his holiness,
power, kingly-ness, eternity, refuge-giving nature, his faithful love! There is nothing that can separate me from his love; therefore, I need not fear.
