Candle of Joy: Ruth 4

THE CANDLE OF JOY (RUTH 4:1-21)

Boaz redeems Ruth--hope, peace, love consummated! And joy! Joy in the birth of a son who would bring blessing, a restorer of life, a nourisher, a redeemer, whose name would be renowned in Israel (4:14-15). It is a conclusion that rings with answered prayer to the prayer of blessing (Ruth 2:4; 2:19; 2:20; 3:10). This son, Obed the grandfather of David, Obed the ancestor of Jesus. This is the true child, the true Son, our true joy. This child, upon whom the angel announced as the substance of joy and “good news of great joy that will be for all the people” (Luke 2:10). Joy of life, joy of nourishment, joy of redemption. May his name be renowned!
