Candle of Love: Ruth 3

THE CANDLE OF LOVE (RUTH 3:1-18)
The third candle of advent will be lit tomorrow.....

Naomi counsels Ruth to take a step of faith to Boaz, asking him to redeem her (3:1-5). Empty, she comes to him asking for redemption and to “spread his wings over your servant” (3:9). In hesed love (covenant-keeping love), Boaz promises redemption; he fills her garment with overflowing barley; he seeks her good. He would not rest until redemption (3:18). And Christ, the true Boaz, in love would not rest until he has a people for his own. Love redeems. Love seeks the good of his lost people. Love, the one with all the power, has put us under his wings in his tenderness. 

Let the Spirit pour out the assurance of God’s love in Christ into your hearts! (Rom. 5:5). 

Let his love stir us to pour ourselves out for our neighbors.
